Why Be Like Everyone Else?
I recently spent a week at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, the largest of its kind in the world. I purchased over 300 new gem stones that I will be incorporating into many new pieces of original design jewelry. This stone is Hermitic Malachite, a semi-precious stone that you don't see very often. It is set in a scalloped bezel on Sterling Silver. The total weight of the piece is 48.9 grams. It is quite an attention grabber. Priced at $85.
The artist, Jill Dunn, is a graduate of Michigan State University. Each piece of Jill Dunn Designs jewelry is designed by and created by the artist. Jill uses a variety of metals and alloys that display themselves in the richness of her work. When you own a piece of Jill Dunn Designs jewelry, you own a one of a kind creation and not something produced in mass quantities. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome.
One of the great joys in life is discovering the diversity there is in our surrounding world. Whether it is visiting a new country or a new dazzling vista of nature, each experience opens my senses to a world of new sounds, smells, sights, tastes and textures. With each new experience I take away a mental memento of the occasion and try to incorporate it into an original jewelry design.
After forty-two years working with physically and mentally challenged children and adults, you become acutely aware of both the uniqueness of people and the common attributes shared by most. Jewelry is very similar in this regard. Although a bracelet or a pendant share common pedigrees forged over thousands of years, the jewelry design artist is able to put their unique personal touch on a creation. While colors and metals have largely stayed the same over the millennia, jewelry design offers the artist a world with no boundaries.
During my long career in business, every ounce of creativity and vision were required to keep my not-for-profit agency viable. I’ve always believed that success is a journey and not a destination. My jewelry work encompasses this philosophy. Jewelry design has allowed me to channel creativity and an interest in processes into a new and exciting direction. Using silver, brass and copper as my base foundation, I enhance my jewelry by adding interesting etching, patina, stones and shapes. Each piece is its own journey and I reach the final destination without the benefit of a map. The voyage of artistic discovery begins with taking a shape or texture from nature, such as a leaf or cloud and then molding it into a piece of wearable art that is attractive, original and affordable.
The process of creating an original piece of wearable art begins with the simple things. First, I decide on the materials that I will use. Silver, copper, brass and Argentium are some of my favorite metals to use. Then I may select a gem stone for use in the piece. This process actually begins every year in January when I visit the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, the largest in the world. In Tucson I meet with dealers from all over the world. I am currently working with gems from India, China, Russia, Poland, Ethiopia, Australia, Mexico and Argentina, to name just a few of the countries or origin.
The process then moves to design, forming and texturing or the use of various patinas.
What you see as a finished product may take many hours of hard work, but it is a labor of love.

Thanks for visiting!
I hope that you will find something you'll love on this site that is both an item of jewelry and a work of art.
Each piece of jewelry on this site is personally designed and crafted by the artist. Each item is original and by the very nature of the creation process cannot be duplicated.
Some artists design and create with no concern about the needs and desires of their customers. I believe that an artist should be open to creative suggestions from their clients. Please feel free to contact me with your suggestions or comments.
New pieces of jewelry will be added to the site as they are created. Please bookmark this page and come back often.
